Description

Scott Robertson, or, to give him his full title, The Reverend W. A. Scott Robertson, Rector of Elmley and Honorary Canon of Canterbury, became the unofficial historian of Sittingbourne and Milton in the second half of the nineteenth century. He is often referred to in more recently published histories, often quoted chapter and verse in fact, and he has earned himself a place alongside the likes of the great Edward Hasted for his services to local history and heritage; at least in the hearts and minds of those in the Sittingbourne and Milton area.

His three major local works, published here, consider Sittingbourne and Milton in some depth and he provides many references to local documents that appear not to have survived, at least, we do not have access to them today.

Includes:

Relics of Ancient Milton – A portion of a lecture given by the late Canon Scott Robertson in the assembly room, Milton, on Thursday December 6th 1877

Sittingbourne during the Middle Ages A.D. 1200-1500. – A paper read before the member of The Sittingbourne Literary and Scientific Association, March 22nd, 1877

Sittingbourne and the names of lands and houses in or near it: their origin and history.
