HRGS Field Unit hold their planning meeting in early January to scope out the digging season. This year we are delighted to be digging at Boyce’s Hill at Newington again. This is a Roman site that has many features of interest and has already provided a mass of finds to process.
Dates For your diary: Dig sessions and normally planned to run Sundays and Mondays – 10am – 4pm (digging subject to weather conditions).

If you are interested in participating, we have plenty of things for all kinds of skills and interests. Cleaning, drawing, photographing, cataloguing, recording, researching, and on site we have dowsing, plan drawing, site surveying, metal detecting, photography as well as traditional excavations. Everyone including seasoned excavators will receive a site review and a health and safety briefing before commencing; with those new to excavation receiving training before starting to work in a trench under guidance.
