HRGS at Sittingbourne Carnival – 25th August 2024

Vanessa and Godfrey Kelsey-Jansen along with Theresa and Richard Emmett were delighted to represent the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne (HRGS) at this year’s Sittingbourne Carnival on Sunday 25th August 2024.

They had a ‘walking float’ and dressed up as wartime characters from the 1940’s pushing a wheelbarrow of produce.

The HRGS team handed out leaflets regarding local history research that HRGS carries out, and leaflets on the countywide Wheels of Time scheme for youngsters, to an extremely well attended street audience.

The Carnival was revived this year after five years absence with over 40 floats taking part. It was great fun and started at Milton Regis recreation ground and finished at Bell Road, Sittingbourne.

HRGS’ great friend – Andy Hudson from Sittingbourne.me on reporting the carnival said The excitement and anticipation ahead of the return of the carnival after an absence of 5 years, had been building steadily online for the last few weeks, but nothing could have prepared me for the scale of the crowds who turned out, and the enormously energetic atmosphere.”

Andy also captured the day on this video clip and more photos of the carnival can be seen on Sittingbourne.me
